Why You Need A Website, Not Just Social Media, To Do Business Online

You've heard it before, and I'll say it again: social media is not a business strategy. It's part of your marketing strategy, and that's fine! But if you're looking for true growth, especially in terms of revenue, having a presence on the web will give you that. And yes, this means having your own website as well as using social media channels like LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook as part of your marketing strategy.

Now let me explain why:

1. You Don't Own Your Social Media

When you post something on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or any other social media platform, it's not really yours—it belongs to the platform. This means that if the platform decides to change its appearance or make it harder for users to access your content, you have no say in the matter. You can't get a refund for losing followers and engagement that would have been gained through the organic growth of your posts. There are also no guarantees that anything will remain available forever—and if they do decide to make changes without informing you first, there's not much you can do about it.

2. Social Media Changes All The Time

Social media is a moving target. The platforms are constantly changing, and they're always adding new features and prioritising new content formats.

Maybe you've heard of vertical videos? Well, that was just the beginning: now there's even more stuff to think about on social media than just vertical videos! And the technology behind these apps is rapidly advancing as well—so much so that it's becoming very challenging for businesses that rely solely on social media as their primary channel to keep up with all the changes.

The bottom line? You can't really afford not to have your business represented on multiple channels simultaneously - because if one channel falls out of step with its purpose or gets abandoned altogether by its users (think Vine), then what happens next?

Are you going to be left standing on a sinking ship?

3. You Can Attract More Customers on Social Media and then convert them using your website

Social media is an excellent place to attract customers and build awareness of your brand. But if you want to convert those people into leads, you need to also provide them with the information they need on your website.

Once you've attracted new customers through social media, you should use your website as a landing page where they can learn more about why they should work with you, what services you offer and anything else that will help them decide whether working with you would be a good decision for their business or organisation.

4. Your Website is Your Space

Here's the thing: your social media pages are owned by someone else. If you don't like it, you can always delete them and start over somewhere else. But on a website, you control everything about it - from what's on the home page to how many services and products are featured. You can use your website to tell your brand story, showcase your products and services in detail, explain how you work and get people excited about doing business with you!

You have full control over everything that goes into your website!

5. You Can Do Whatever You Want With Your Website

You can do whatever you want with your website. Your website is not limited in any way by the social media platforms you're using.

You can add new pages and content to your website as often as you like, allowing you to keep up with trends and share new information about what's going on in your business.

And if you get bored with the design of your site, or decide that it doesn't reflect who you are anymore, then it's easy to change! Simply contact a professional web designer and they'll be able to help make the necessary changes.

6. Your website gives your business credibility.

Do you trust a business that doesn't have a website?

  • Yes.

  • Yes...but only if it's a new business.

  • No. A business without a website gives me dodgy vibes.

  • It depends... (leave a comment)

When people see that you have a website, they’ll trust that you are a legitimate business. Your website gives potential customers a place to go online and learn about you and your products and services.

Your website can also be used as an easy-to-navigate platform for showcasing your expertise and experience in specific industries, as well as the variety of products you offer. A well-designed site will allow visitors to browse through all the things that make your business unique: offerings, prices, payment methods, shipping details—whatever makes sense for what you do.

A website is one of the best marketing tools you can use to attract customers and build your business. Having a website and using social media together is a great way to build up a strong online presence.

Social media is great for getting your name out there, but a website is where you can build your brand by providing information about your business, its products or services, news items that might interest consumers, testimonials from past customers, etc. This gives visitors more incentive to buy from you because they see that this isn't just another company out there trying to make money off them—it's someone who cares about what they do and wants them to be happy with their purchase.

With so many social media platforms available, it can be easy for businesses to get caught up in all the hype and forget about their website. However, having a website is one of the best ways to build an online presence that will benefit your business in the long run. Your website gives you control over what content goes on it and how visitors can interact with it. It also allows them to contact your company directly without going through any third party like LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook etc.
